Marathon And BioHitech America Announce Strategic Alliance To Promote Organic Waste Solutions

Vernon, AL. (June 13, 2011) — Marathon Equipment Company and BioHitech America  have announced a strategic alliance to promote organic waste processing products worldwide.  Industry experts estimate that more than 40 percent of the food produced in the United  States—over $50 billion—is thrown into the garbage every year. This equates to over 32 million  tons of food waste, which the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency estimates costs over $1 billion  annually in disposal costs.

In its commitment to help customers reduce the costs associated with managing solid waste,  Marathon, an industry leader in compaction and recycling equipment, has sought the expertise of  Allendale, NJ-based BioHitech America in addressing the growing challenge of effectively handling  organic waste. BioHitech has worked with inventor, Mr. Chun Il Koh, and his company, BioHitech  International, who have created a unique organic waste decomposition system, to bring this cutting  edge technology to the United States.

This system, marketed as the Marathon Eco-Safe Digester™, uses a highly refined formula  of microorganisms that breaks down organic waste and converts it into a liquid that can be safely  flushed down the drain, enabling the effluent to return to the ecosystem as water. The Eco-Safe  Digester can quickly and safely decompose virtually all organic food waste including, but not limited  to, meat, poultry, fish, grains, dairy products, fruits, and vegetables. Approximately 100 gallons of  effluent is produced by every 1,200 pounds of food processed.

The Eco-Safe Digester helps divert waste from landfills while delivering multiple  environmental benefits and measurable cost savings.
